Week 2

We have been very busy with developing science fair questions this week. Hopefully by the end of the week most of the class should have a pretty good idea of their question and can begin researching to find the science behind their question.
We have also begin some experiments in class.
The first experiment was looking at an irreversible change - changing a liquid to a solid ie making butter.
Yesterday we did crazy canisters! Luckily the weather stayed fine for us to do this outside as this is definitely an outside experiment. This experiment was looking at the chemical reaction caused by combining a base with an acid. There were canisters flying everywhere!

Term 2 - Week 1

We begin our exciting Term 2!
Hard to believe that we have reached Term 2 already. This term the main focus is Science Fair. It is always amazing to see the end results of each students Science Fair each year.

I will send home updates on the Science Fair and homework this term revolves around completing a Science Fair investigation.

Room 3 has unfortunately had to say good-bye to Mason, who has left us at the end of Term 1. We were all a bit sad to say good bye but he is excited about his new school and the opportunities on offer for him. Hopefully we will see him again at some stage to hear how he is going.

We also welcome Lachlan who has joined us today.

Week 11

It's the last week of school already!! It seems that as if it was the first day yesterday! For the past 2 weeks Room 3 has been doing ASPIRE. ASPIRE is when you have to write about something that has happened throughout your family history. I have had a lot of fun doing it and I have found things out that I didn't know!

Week 9

On the 1st of April Room 3 went to the museum. We learned about the early settlers and early Dunedin. Everyone enjoyed dressing up and doing a drama. Room 3 visited the Chinese Garden and then went back to school. I enjoyed the trip.

Camp Recount

Adrenalin rushed through my veins. The pitch black night was perfect for "Storm the Mountain." Next thing I knew, the count down had started. "10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1!" We all screamed, "GO!"
We all pushed and shoved to get to the front. Sprinting faster than a cheetah. I sped off towards the playground. There was a bone chilling silence as I started to creep up the hill. "Crunch, crunch, crunch" went the dry sticks under my feet. Seeing flashes of light in the distance, I instantly got down om my hands and knees like a commando. I risked a peep and saw the two parents were flanking the flying fox tower.
My mind was blank so I couldn't think up a plan. In the end I decided just to make a run for it. Shooting out of the undergrowth, I charged at the first parent. I side stepped the parent with ease, thanks to my rugby training. "This is it, I can do it," I said to myself. Using the last of my energy I put in one final burst of speed. I leaped at the A-frame and touched the polished wood planks. No energy was left in me so I flopped down on the ground, breathing heavily.
Storm the Mountain was awesome but very exhausting. I could not wait for the next round.

Week 9

This week we have our class trip to the Early Settlers Museum. Thank you to all parent help, without you we are not able to have these fabulous experiences.

This week we are working hard on our ASPIRE topic. Our overall question is: How are we shaped by our past?
This is leading us to brainstorm and discuss smaller questions we can ask and find answers to. A big part of this ASPIRE is to write interview questions as a method of gathering information. We tend to rely on internet and Google to find answers, when often asking good open-ended questions to an expert can give you far better information.
This was the basis for last week's homework: to write 5 open ended questions to ask me about my childhood. The class interviewed me on Friday. There were some challenging questions!

Week 8

This week was a short wee. We didn't have any school on Monday because it was anniversary day. On Thursday we has Ms Kuzik while Mrs Garthwaite was teaching extension writing. We had Te Reo Maori while she was here then we played a P.E. game called Bench Ball. There was no assembly on Friday but there was house sports. For homework this week we all had to think of 5 questions to ask Mrs Garthwaite about her childhood and the person who found out the most information about her childhood would get some points for their desk group.
